Dear fellow Leo leaders of District 308B2,

I just finished my exam, sitting in front of the computer and thought of writing something about leadership to you guys, since it is my portfolio in the District Leo Cabinet.

Being a leader, especially you, either as the Leo President, Vice President, Secretary or even a Project Chairperson, it is not an easy task, and it is definitely a great OPPORTUNITY, and great EXPERIENCE. Every night, spend 5 minutes to review what you had done to your club, to your fellow team mates, to you fellow members. Look at yourself, see where your weakness is and what have been your mistakes all the while, and try to correct them. The question this week that I am going to ask you all are:

1) ARE YOU FEELING LONELY ON TOP OF YOUR LEADERSHIP? If you are feeling even 10% of it, you are doing something wrong.

LEADERSHIP = FRIENDSHIP, friendship is the foundation of influence; President Abraham Lincoln said: "If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend." Good relationships make influence possible, and friendship is the most positive relationship you can develop with your teammates. Do not treat your members as only your teammate, treat them as your friends... as I believe leadership which works on "relational basis" works 100 times better than leadership which works on "positional basis" When I was an Alpha Leo President, asking members to come for a project/ activity is so easy. You just need to tell them: "Your Co-curriculum marks will be deducted if you absent." Sometimes you as the President, you care more about how the outsiders or the Lions look at you, more than how your members feel or whether they really interested in what they are doing. But, things change when you become the Omega Leo President... you can't use the same way you are using in Alpha Leo Clubs. At this point of leadership, your friendship and influences to your club members become so important to make things happen. That's how you differentiate "Manager" and "Leader" who used "positional leadership" and "relational leadership" respectively.

Those CLOSEST to the LEADER determine the success level of a Leader. This statement can have positive or negative outcomes, depending on your ability to develop those closest to you. For many years, I had been realized that many so called "TOP President" had failed to train those closest to them, which are their SUCCESSORS. Stop for a moment and think of the 5 -6 people closest to you in your organization. Are you developing them? Do you have a plan for them? Are they growing? Have they been able to lift your load or better than you?

As the potential leaders of your club/ organization, you are either an asset or a liability to the organization. Here is a story: "When there's a problem, a 'fire' in your club, you as a leader are often the 1st to arrive at the scene. You have in your hands 2 buckets. One contains water and the other contains gasoline. The 'spark' before your will either become greater problem because you pour the gasoline on it, or it will be extinguished because you use the bucket of water." The question that you as the Club Leader needs to ask is: "Am I training them to use the gasoline or the water?" .
P/S: The best example that you can see is our 4th and 5th Prime Minister =)

So, start building good personal relationship with your members and teammates today, and work as ONE. Stop being selfish... Start training your juniors/ successors around you, you will find them even more rewarding than the TOP PRESIDENT Award when they are a better leader than you.

Even when you've played the game of your life, it's the feeling of teamwork that you'll remember. You'll forget the plays, the shots and the scores, but you will never forget your teammates. Leadership and learning is indispensible. Enjoy your journey as the Leo leaders of District 308B2! ROAR!! ROAR!! ROAR!!

On the 21^st of August, five member from the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity, namely Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Fion Tey, Leo Justin Yap, Leo Benji Ng and Leo Casey Lim were present at the 11^TH Selangor Joint Installation. The clubs involved were the Leo Club of SMK USJ8, ACGBU, SMK Subang Utama, SMK La Salle PJ, SMK Seafield, SMK USJ4, SMK Section 4, SMK Sri KL and Taylor’s College.

The 5 of us reached at around 12:30 p.m and registered ourselves. After that we waited for the function to begin. At 1:30 p.m, the event kick-started with the arrival of the guest of honour followed by the national anthem, the recital of Leo pledge and the roll call to acknowledge everyone present. Following that was an opening musical performance. After the performance, we had the welcoming speech by the Organizing Chairperson Leo Natasha of SMK USJ8, followed by the District 308-B2 District Chairperson for Leo Clubs, Lion William Lim’s speech then another speech by Region 6 & 7 Regional Committee Chairperson of Leo Clubs, Lion Nelson Wong.

It was time for the induction ceremony of the new Leo members. A representative of the Immediate Past Presidents gave a short speech to motivate the newly inducted members. After that, we had a short game played by a few members from different Leo clubs which included Leo Fion Tey from our very own club. Then it was finally time for the installation of the new BODs. All of the newly appointed BODs received their respective responsibilities. After that was the acceptance speech given by the representative of the Presidents followed by the souvenir presentation to the Lions. With that over, the meeting was adjourned.

After the meeting was adjourned, we had some refreshments then came a few performances for the audience. First there was a keyboard performance performing two pretty well known songs then lastly came a very retro dance number which was very interesting. With the performance over, souvenirs were presented to the Leo Clubs that were present at the event. The event ended at around 6p.m.

Installation of Leo Club of SMK Taman Petaling (P)

On the 12^th of August, 4 PJI members went to SMK(P) Taman Petaling for the Leo Club of SMK(P) Taman Petaling’s Installation. These four PJI members were Leo Andrew Yeong, Leo Casey Lim, Leo Benji Ng and Leo Damian Leong Wai Yew. The event was scheduled to begin at 2.30pm. It formally began about 30 minutes after.

The event started off as usual with the national anthem and the recital of the Leo pledge. Their theme of ‘5 Wonders of Nature’ was explained to us whereby different kinds of people come together as 1 club. Like all installations they have their rounds of speeches, induction of members and installation of their Board of Directors. Their club had a few amusing dance performances and a few singing with musical instruments. In between they had a game for us to play. After all that, we moved on to their school canteen for some refreshments and mingled around for a while before leaving.

Formation Day of Omega Leo Club of Metro Methodist College

On the morning of August 13^th, the Omega Leo Club of Metro Methodist College had their Formation Ceremony. I, Leo Damian Leong Wai Yew, the president of Leo Club of PJI went for the event. I took LRT to KL Sentral and met with the Leos they have stationed there. I was led to the place with different people leading at each checkpoint they set. It was done very systematically.

I arrived at the college lobby whereby I registered at their registration counter. I was requested to sign into Facebook through the iPad they had prepared so that I can ‘like’ their page while I was registering. After that I was ushered upstairs to their hall. The event began about 30 minutes after I arrived with spare time to mingle around with other Leos.

The event began with the national anthem and then the recital of the Leo pledge. After that was the roll call to recognize those present. Following on was the usual round of speeches. Then there was the signing to certify the formation of the club. After that was the most important part of the event, the induction of members and the installation of the Board of Directors. After these important ceremonies, they gave us a very interesting souvenir, a bag of cookies.

The newly-installed President then gave his inspiring speech. After that, they prepared some very amusing performances for us. They had a vocal & guitar performance followed by an amazing dance performance and lastly there was an amazing solo singing performance as well. Everyone started taking photographs and then we were asked to proceed to their college canteen for refreshments. And that marks the end of the event.

Leo Club of Ipoh Unity 10th Installation Cum Initiation & 9th Anniversary Celebration

The Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity arrived at Fair Park Hotel at 10.45am on 14^thAugust 2011 for the Leo Club of Ipoh Unity’s 10^th Installation, Initiation & 9^th Anniversary Celebration. We registered at the entrance and were promptly ushered into the event room. One by one, Lions and Leos and guests began arriving as the event was about to begin. Incoming President Leo Low Yau Kin called the meeting to order. Next was the customary flag salutation led by Leo Adelyn Tan, followed by the Leo Pledge led by Leo Geraldine Cheong. Then everyone sang the Lion Spirit song led by District Vice President Leo Raymin Yew and 2^nd District Vice Presdent Leo Jocelyn Yew, Organizing Chairperson cum Outoing President Leo Loke Wai Yew, Incoming President Leo Low Yau Kin and District President Leo Cheng Kok Sheng.

Roll call began with recognising the Lions Cabinet members, Leo Cabinet officers, Special Guests Yuki Matsuda and Misato Io from Japan, Lions Club of Georgetown Island, Penang New Century, Penang Metropolitan, Georgetown, Seberang Prai Selatan, Ipoh Bougainvillea City, Ipoh City, Damansara Metro, Ipoh Evergreen, Leo Club of Penang City, Penang Metro, Tanjung Penang, Union High School, Pei Yuan, SMK Poi Lam, SMI, Poi Lam High School, AMC, Yuk Kuan, Sing Chung, Sam Tet, SMK Anderson, SIS, PJI, Berjaya College of Hospitality & Tourism, INTI, SMK La Salle PJ, Singapore Raffles City and last but not least, Ipoh Unity with the debut of their new roar.

Outgoing President Loke Wai Yew was invited onstage to give his welcoming speech. This was followed by the Opening Performance, a hip hop dance by Ipoh Unity’s new member Leo Christopher Chow. The Opening Ceremony began with the Lion Cabinet officers and Sponsoring Lions Club representative signing the banner accompanied by Ipoh Unity’s Incoming and Outgoing President. Everyone was then treated to a short Media Presentation consisting of past projects as well as introducing the new BOD 2011/2012.

Next on the agenda was the Induction of new members led by District President Leo Cheng Kok Sheng. Outgoing President Leo Loke Wai Yew was then invited onstage to relinquish his chain of command. This was followed by the Installation of Incoming President Leo Low Yau Kin and his new BOD 2011/2012 led by Lion William Lim, DC for Leo Clubs 308B2.

DG Lion Shawn Lee then presentation the gable and chain of command to President Leo Low Yau Kin, who in turn gave his first address as President of the Leo Club of Ipoh Unity. DG Lion Shawn Lee then took the opportunity to say a few words.

A special presentation for Leo Eliza Chia was held as she was given a scrapbook containing photos taken throughout her years of service as a Leo.

LUNCHTIME!

As the guests tucked into a reasonable lunch, the souvenir presentation to Lions Dignitaries (Cabinet, Sponsoring Lions Club) was underway. Ipoh Unity then proceeded to celebrate its “birthday” with a birthday cake.

The guests were in a for a treat as Leo District President Cheng Kok Sheng was “punished” to sing a song and catwalk due to his late arrival. After that, Immediate Past President Leo Loke Wai Yew presented momentos to the District Governer, District Chairperson and Leo District President. As the event drew to a close, President Low Yau Kin called the awesome meeting to be adjourned.

MD308 Leo Forum 2011

MD 308 Leo Forum is the biggest event of the fiscal year and has always been the most anticipated event annually. Every year, there are at least 800 participants counting Leos only attending this 3 days 2 nights event.

This year, the MD 308 Leo Forum was held in Johor Bahru at the Zon Regency Hotel located by the seaside from 28^th to 30^th of May 2011. This year’s Leo Forum was organized by the Lions and Leos of District 308 B1.

On the morning of 28^th May, Leos from Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya, Leo Club of SMK Taman SEA and Leo Club of PJI gathered outside SMK Damansara Jaya while another group with Leos from the , Leo Club of SMK(P) Assunta and Leo Club of PJI gathered outside the A&W located near Taman Jaya LRT station at 5.10am. At 6.00am, after everyone has boarded the bus, we headed down south to Johor Bahru. The journey to Johor Bahru took approximately 4.5 hours.

It was about 11.00am when we reached our destination. All of us headed to the 6^th floor of the hotel and left our luggage in the luggage room that prepared for us. Then, we had lunch and soon after, the Opening Ceremony started at the Grand Ballroom. As usual, there were speeches by the District Governor, District Chairperson, Forum Organizing Chairperson, etc. Then, this was followed by a drum performance and House Rules & Safety Briefing.

At 3.30pm we had a Motivational Talk at the Expo Hall that was located next to the hotel ballroom. The motivational talk was basically about how to plan to achieve something. It was basically about having a clear vision on your goal, planning out in detail, and to execute the plan to achieve the goal. It was quite a well conducted motivational talk and besides that, there were many thumbdrives given out as prizes when the question was correctly answered as well!

Soon, we got our hotel room keys and we headed to our respective hotel rooms to get ready for the next event - The Fellowship Night. The theme was “Wild wild West”. We were asked to dress up as Cowboys, Cowgirls and even Red Indians. At 7pm, the Fellowship Night began. The ballroom was decorated with many cacti, cowboy-related decorations and most of the Leos and Lions were dressed aligned with theme. As usual, there were performances and speeches throughout the night. The dinner was good. Besides that, we had a footloose session where all the Leo delegates danced and partied in the ballroom. It was a fun and amazing night. There were colourful laser lights around the ballroom topped with speakers blasting our favourite dance music.

The next day, we had breakfast in the Expo Hall and then we went to the ballroom for the Forum Talk. Then, we had tea break outside the ballroom before moving on to the workshop that was organized by the forum organizers. After that, we had lunch at the Expo Hall before heading to our Sub-District Leo Forum held in Auditorium 2. There were many awards given to various Leo Clubs.

As soon as the Sub-District Leo Forum ended, we quickly head back to our hotel rooms to get ready for Banquet Night. The theme for this year’s Banquet Night is “Enchanted Fairyland”. As we step into the ballroom, I actually felt the atmosphere of a wedding dinner. The ballroom was decorated with romantic white roses, candlelight, flower petals on the dinner tables and romantic music playing throughout the dinner. Besides that, the Leos and Lions present were all very well dressed. The ladies dressed in their beautiful dinner gowns while the gentlemen dressed up with their blazers, smart tuxedos and ties.

The dinner went on with performances and awards session. Our club’s secretary, Leo Justin Yap was recognized as District 308 B2’s Top Secretary!

Besides that, Leo Beatrice Grace and I were nominated as the Best Dressed of the night. Beatrice won the Best Dressed Overall. It was a great experience for both of us as we were asked to perform on the stage in front of almost a thousand people. Trust me, it wasn’t easy. Both of us were literally shaking in excitement.

As soon as the dinner ended, we had a short footloose session topped with photo session. We were basically spamming our cameras as everyone was well dressed. We returned to our respective rooms after that and called it a night.

The next day morning on the 30^th of May, we had breakfast in the Expo Hall and had the Closing Ceremony at the Grand ballroom. Then, we checked out our hotel rooms and had our last lunch of the forum together with the Leos from other clubs at the expo hall. We took some group photos and then we headed to our respective buses. The Leo Forum was definitely a great experience to all of us as we managed to enjoy and bond with other Leo members from various clubs. I’m looking forward to the next Leo Forum.

Lions Club of Petaling Jaya 50th Anniversary Celebration

On the night of 11^th June 2011, Leo Fion Tey and Leo Leong Wai Yew attended the Lion Clubs of Petaling Jaya 50^th Anniversary celebration at Royal Selangor Club. We arrived at 3:30pm to help pack goodie bags. By 5:00pm, we had finished packing 300 goodie bags. We sat down to rest while Lions Club of Petaling Jaya had their photograph taking session with Lions from the Lions Club of Yoro, Lions Club of Funabashi, Lions Club of Matsudo Ecually, Lions Club of Keelung, Lions Club of Sunshine Manila and Lions Club of Georgetown. All of which are sisters club of Lion Club of Petaling Jaya.

The event officially started at 7:30pm with guest of honors for that night (PID Lion Ellise Suriyati Hj Omar accompanied by President of Lion Club of Petaling Jaya, Lion Kesavan; Past International Director, Lion Douglas KK Lee; Council Chairperson, Lion Wong Chang Wai and District Governor, Lion Hudson Hah) walked into the hall and took their seats. Lion Kesavan then called the meeting to order and it was followed by the customary Flag Salutation led by Lion Muthu. After the welcoming address by Organizing Chairperson, Lion Woon Foong Piew; everyone stood up to give 3 toasts to DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Dipertuan Agong, DYMN Sultan of Selangor & to Lions Club International. Each of the clubs present was acknowledged with the traditional Roll Call. Dinner was served while speeches were being delivered on stage. When the 2^nd dish was served, the Lions Club of Petaling Jaya presented Ms Liang, the mistress of quick changing who came all the way from Chengdu, China. Everyone was delighted with her ability to quickly shift between different costumes and face masks. After the performance, each of the Lions Club representatives present went on stage to say a few words and exchange mementoes. When it was turn for the Lion Club of Matsudo Ecually, they marched in military-style and saluted to their handmade banner before presenting it to Lion Kesavan. Several Lions were awarded the Melvin Jones Award for their past services and DG Hudson Hah took the opportunity to present the Passion Awards to the respective Lions.

Lion Kesavan also presented a donation of RM10,000 in total to the Lions Club of Funabashi, Lions Club of Yoro and Lions Club of Matsudo Ecually. Our club along with 2 of our sisters clubs, Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya and Leo Club of SMK Assunta took the chance to present our mock cheque to show our care to Japan as well. Right after the mock cheque presentation, we proceeded to the cutting cake ceremony. Our table of Leos went to distribute the prepared goodie bags to all the audiences who attended the banquet dinner tonight. The dinner came to the end when the clock struck 11pm as Lion Kesavan adjourned the meeting. Most had begun leaving the banquet hall while others were still taking photo as memories.

Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya's Installation

One fine noon on the 16^th of July 2011, 9 PJI members namely Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Christopher Saw, Leo Samantha Yap, Leo Beatrice Chan, Leo Cheng Weng Siong, Leo Fion Tey, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Tan Huey Luan and Leo Jack Ng went for the Installation of the Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya held in their school hall. The event was scheduled to start at 12pm but as usual it doesn’t and so we took the time in between to mingle around. The event officially began at about 1.15pm.

Like most school-based Leo clubs, the event guided us through the presentation of certificates to the outgoing Leos, presentation of awards, Installation of new members and Induction of the new Board of Directors. There were also many amusing performances presented to us throughout the installation. Besides that, a few PJI members were lucky enough to win a few prizes in the Lucky Draw segment. After the main event, we proceeded to their school canteen for refreshments and mingled around before going home.

Leo Club of SMK Assunta's Installation Day

On the 22nd of July 2011, 10 PJI members which includes Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Lim Chong Sheng, Leo Chew Chien Lung, Leo Jack Ng, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Tay Wen Yuin, Leo Jeyamalar, Leo Fion Tey, Leo Cheng Weng Siong and Leo Samantha Yap were present for the Installation Day of the Leo Club of Assunta, one of our sister club. The event was held in the school hall of SMK Assunta. The event was scheduled to begin at 2pm but officially started at about 2.30pm and we took the time in between to mingle around with other Leos.

The event proceeded with the usual ceremonies of formal presentation of certificates to the outgoing Leos, presentation of awards, Installation of new members and Induction of the new Board of Directors. The Installation of the new members was accompanied by the lighting of candles marking the beginning of their journey as Leos. The Induction of the new Board of Directors was accompanied by exchanging of gifts between the old and new Board of Directors and the passing of the flame of their candles from the old to the new Board of Directors.

There were also many entertaining performances. One very meaningful performance was by the new Board of Directors, who changed the lyrics of a song to give tribute to each and every one of their predecessors. After the performances, amusing handmade souvenirs were presented to each club representative. We then proceeded to their school canteen for refreshments and continued mingling with each other.

Forum Rules & Guidelines Code of Conduct
1. All delegates MUST WEAR ID TAGS at all times throughout the Leo Forum upon registration. Any forum delegate without his/her ID Tag will receive an initial warning and be requested to wear the ID Tag immediately. Thereafter, any further disregard would result in a fine of RM50.00 and strict disciplinary action would be taken. No correspondences will be entertained.
2. Upon the loss of your ID Tag, delegate(s) will be required to pay a sum of RM50.00 for the replacement of a new ID Tag.

3. Attendance is compulsory for all delegates for all forum events. Delegates are strictly NOT allowed to leave any event or forum venue without prior permission from the Forum Chief Organising Chairperson.

4. Smoking and consumption of liquor, alcoholic drink/food or any abusive substances are STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

5. Delegates must conduct themselves in an orderly behaviour at all times.

6. The „Palm Lounge‟, Pubs, KTV Lounge are all STRICTLY OUT OF BOUNDS to all delegates.

7. Dorm rooms are not cohabit able. Male delegates are NOT allowed to go to floors that house female delegates and vice versa.

8. Strict disciplinary actions will be taken against delegates who are caught:
 Playing truant at any of the Leo Forum events. Delegates who fail to turn up for any event will only be excused upon valid reasons or medical reasons as verified by a doctor.
 Violating the forum house rules, fighting, gambling, smoking, committing vice, consuming/possessing alcoholic drinks or abusive substances and causing any form of disruption to the flow of the entire Leo Forum.
 Loitering at the lobby area or found in other rooms, especially if the rooms belong to those of the opposite gender. Lights out is at 1:00AM.
 Leaving the premises for personal activities without the consent from the Forum Chief Organising Chairperson.

9. Visitors (parents of delegates only) must seek permission from the Forum Chief Organising Chairperson prior to entering the Leo Forum Venue(s). Outsiders or non-registered Leos are prohibited from entering the Leo Forum venue.

10. Delegates must observe the Dress Code for all Leo Forum event(s).

11. PUNCTUALITY must be observed for all Leo Forum events.

12. Do NOT bring valuable items to attend the forum. Do NOT leave any valuable items in the room. Please take good care of your own belongings. The Forum Organising Committee will not be held liable for any lost, damaged or stolen belongings.

Hotel Rules and Regulations
1. Do NOT make outgoing call(s) using the hotel room telephone. Unless necessary, any usage costs will be borne by delegate(s).

2. Any room service charges will be borne by the delegate(s) of the respective room themselves.

3. All delegates must observe the cleanliness of the rooms.

4. Removing any hotel properties from the hotel is NOT allowed, except for purchased items.

5. Do NOT vandalise any hotel property. Should any hotel properties be damaged, the delegate(s) concerned shall be held liable to bear all costs of repair and/or replacement.

8TH Annual Blind Leading The Blind Charity Walk Article

On the 17th of April, in the early Sunday morning, the Leos from Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity, namely Leo Fion Tey, Leo Wong Wei Jheng, Leo Khor Rui Wei, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Chew Chien Lung, Leo Cheng Weng Siong, Leo Tay Wen Yuin, Leo Pei Lim, Leo Eunice Law, Leo Jeya, Leo Lee Pei Wen, and not forgetting our face painter, Leo Deborah, were at the Civic Centre, MBPJ to help out the other Leo Clubs and the Lion Club with the Public Registration. Some of the Leos were there to help distribute the breakfast to the participants.

Music was played to help cultivate the mood. The Civic Centre was filled with the cheerleading squad from SMK Damansara Jaya, the School Band from SMK Taman Petaling, and a Kompang Group from a special school all the way from Setapak were also there to join us. We were glad that this year we had about 1500 participants. I’m sure it was a priceless experience, and everyone would take good care of their eyes from now on. We did the walk in pairs, with our face painted by Leo Deborah, and a partner to take turns being blindfolded halfway through the walk.

Around 9:30am, everyone finished their 3km walk. Participants were to told to return the blind fold and return their number slip before they receive their lucky draw number from a few of us that were on duty. Once they took their lucky draw numbers, they went to the goodie bags counter to collect their freebies. Each participant can redeem a bun from Gardenia, drinks from F&N and Fruit Tree, and a packet of Julie's Biscuits. Well Again sponsored for the health check up that was available there, which was worth RM580 per check up.

The Cheerleading team from SMK DJ entertains everyone during the wait for the lucky draw to start, where everyone gets a chance to grab cool items, like a travelling bag, goodie bags courtesy of Sunway Lagoon, a 32’inch LCD TV courtesy of Sharp.

Lastly, what every Leo Club had been waiting for: the competition results. The Leo Club of Taman Petaling came in 3rd place, followed by Leo Club of Taman Sea as the first runner up. The champion of the day still remains the Leo Club of Assunta, who also won first place last year.

The event end at 11am. We stayed back to help the Lions clean up before we left.

8TH Annual Blind Leading The Blind Charity Walk Launch Article

On 11th Of April, Lions Club of Petaling Jaya has the 8th Annual Blind Leading the Blind Charity Walk launch at Civic Centre, MBPJ. While Waiting for Datuk Bandar MBPJ, YB Dato Mohammad Roslan Bin Sakima to arrived at the launch venue, slide show were play for the media press to get an idea what is Blind Leading the Blind walk was all about Peoples that were at the launch were Mr.T.Jayakrishna, Administrator of THONEH, Mr. George Thomas, Executive Director of Malaysian Association of The Blind (MAB), Ms.Althi, Community Service Manager of THONEH, Mr. Lawrence Lee, Honorary Secretary of the Charity Home of China Press, patients that received the sponsorship to undergo for the Cataracts Operation in the past. Media that came from various Newspaper such as China Press, Nanyang, Sin Chew, NSTP and other newspapers. Lion and Lioness from Lion Club of Petaling Jaya and myself were present there. Representatives from various donors were there too to present their mock cheque presentation to Lion Mak Siew Fong for this coming Blind Leading the Blind Walk.

The event starts at 11am. Datuk Bandar MBPJ, YB Dato Mohammad Roslan Bin Sakiman grace the launch. Right after that speech were delivering from Datuk Bandar MBPJ, YB Dato Mohammad Roslan Bin Sakima, follow by Lion Kesavan, President of Lion Club of Petaling Jaya. Last but not least by Lion Mak Siew Fong, Organizing Chairperson for the 8th Annual Blind Leading the Blind Charity Walk. Moving on next is Mock Cheque Presentation by a few donors like Kurnia Insurance and not forgetting our club on the behave of our sister club to present it to the BLB Organizing Chairperson accompany by Datuk Bandar MBPJ, YB Dato Mohammad Roslan Bin Sakiman. The event ends at 12pm with refreshment serve.

Leo Joint Charity Dancing Competition Article

The Leo Joint Charity Dancing Competition began at 12.40pm with Dr. Lee Wan Tin from NKF giving a speech to kick start the event. This was followed by a short performance by Street Nation dancers, Alex and Eric. As the beats of the music faded away, lunch was served in the form of “nasi lemak” packets and a bottle of mineral water. It was time to introduce the competition’s 3 judges. They were then revealed to be none other than Eric and Alex from Street Nation, as well as former DiGi Celebriteen and Biggest Loser Asia contestant, Zenny.

It was time for the contestants to show their skills on the dancefloor! First up was Leo Family with a flash mob routine. Next was Rockafellas performing freestyle routines, followed by D’Squared who also performed freestyle but in a simulated dance battle. Next up was Shamayne and Ashley who performed a short gymnastics routine that they choreographed...an hour earlier! The judges commented that the duo had the most skill thus far in the competition. The fifth contestant was Tri-Delic, a girl trio who chose to do hip hop genre. The final contestant was none other than Chin Kar Yern who was “demanded” by the audience to perform a solo routine against Darius Beh but only Kar Yern will be judged as a contestant.

As the final beat died down, the judges retired to a back room to deliberate on who deserved to win this competition. In the mean time, female beatboxer Kim Syng entertained the crowd with just the power of her vocal chords. The next performance was another vocalist, our own Zenny who performed her latest single “Kau” accompanied by Street Nation dancers. As Zenny left the stage, it was time to announce the winners. The second runner up was the Rockafellas, followed by Shamayne and Ahsley who took first runner up. The winner of the Leo Joint Charity Dancing Competition is none other than Tri-Delic. After a short attempt at opening the dancefloor, the event was officially over.

Kids Just Wanna Have Fun Article

On the morning of the 26th of February 2011 around 7.30am, the Leos from SMK Assunta, SMK Seafield, SMK Taman Sea, SMK Damansara Jaya, SMK Subang Utama, Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity (O) and the Leo club of ACG Benevolent Untiy(O) gathered in SMK Assunta where the event was held. The clock struck 8.00 in the morning, most of the children from all four homes which are Rumah HOPE, Rumah Charis, Praise Emmanuel Children Home and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Sayang were already in the compounds of the school. The first thing lined up for the day was the opening ceremony. First of all, the emcees gave a brief explanation about the purpose of the event which was then followed by a couple of speeches and the acknowledgement of the honored guests and as well as the children at the event. To officiate the event, the honored guests were invited to cut the ribbon as a sign of officiating the event. Next up, the children were told to head over to the field for a morning exercise

Following the morning warm up, the children were split up into their individual groups and the games were started.
After that, it was lunch time and so the Leos led the children to the canteen of SMK Assunta to have lunch. The children’s meals were ordered from Kentucky Fried Chicken.
As one of the homes happened to be vegetarian, they were given noodles for lunch. After lunch the children were given ice-cream which was a hit among them as they kept on coming back for more.

Lastly, after lunch the kid headed back up into the Gallery of SMK Assunta for some entertainment. First up was the performance entitled “Double Dream Hands” which was performed by several Leos. Following the performance was a clown show. It was definitely a fun performance and good one indeed. Even the Leos were entertained too.

At 2.30 in the afternoon, the closing ceremony was held. The emcees of the event called the caretakers as well as the guests of honor on stage to each receive a token of appreciation from the Leos. Later on, the prizes were given out to the winners of the games and the project ended with the handing out of goodie bags to the children as a sign of appreciation for their presence at our event. The children left the school compound with smiles.Last but not least of course a group pictures were taken together with the kids.

PJI Fellowship 2011

On the 22nd of January 2011, we have LLC Reunion. After the reunion end, all the PJI heading to Riana Green condo to have our fellowship between the board of directors and also the members.The fellowship start from 6pm until 10pm.The objective of this fellowship were organise is to strengthen the bonds and clarify with both BODs and members of the club through fellowship and not to forget to have a great time together on the beginning of a new year . Organizing Chairperson for this fellowship is Leo Eric Teh.

In the beginning, bags were grabbed, changing rooms were filled with people, swim suits were worn and without any hesitation, the cool and breezy water of the pool was filled with crazy Leos from the Leo Club of PJI. While food and drinks were provided earlier, people had already started filling their stomachs with some starter meals. Also, the click and flash of the camera just went crazy as the photographer snapped away while everyone started chatting, racing with one another in the pool and playing water activities. As the sky got darker, the organizing chairperson prepared a small activity whereby everyone had to find a specific marble that was thrown into the pool and the top 3 winners will walk away with cash prizes. Next, everyone continued with their conversation and other activities. As the saying goes, an event cannot end without a group picture. After a few crazy group pictures, everyone bathed and changed in the changing room and head straight home.At the end of the day, everybody had a wonderful time swimming, chatting, eating and playing together. Of course, the bond has gotten stronger, moments were created and memories were taken home by every individual.

3rd RCC Meeting Cum Leo Quiz

On 16th January 2011, the 3rd RCC meeting was held at SMK La Salle Klang. PJI members Leo Fion Tey, Leo Justin Yap and Leo Leong Wai Yew arrived together although in separate cars around 8.45am. Soon the rest of the attendees began to arrive. They included the Leo Clubs of SMK Assunta, SMK Damansara Jaya, SMK USJ 8, SMK Taman SEA, SMK Seafield, SMK Sri KL, SMK Subang Jaya, SMK Subang Utama, SMK USJ 4, SMK Batu Lapan and the Omega Leo Club of ACGBU.
The meeting began around 9.30am as soon as everyone was settled down. The RCC Meeting Secretary was appointed, followed shortly by the traditional roll call of the Leo Clubs present. Regional Committee Chairperson Nicholas Seow then gave a short speech before allowing the Leo Clubs to present their individual club reports.
After SMK Sri KL presented the final presentation, the microphone was passed back to RCC Nicholas once more. He had the following announcements to share:-

1) Some of the club membership reports that were just presented should reflect data beginning 1st July 2011.

2) Slides containing funding / fundraising project info should mention the amount gained.

3) There will be two new upcoming Omega Leo Clubs
a. Leo Club of Klang Omega
b. Leo Club of Serdang

4) The 4th RCC Meeting will be hosted by SMK Damansara Jaya

Before breaking for lunch, RCC Nicholas showed a video called “Walk with the Lions”. It involved Leos & Lions from Penang and displayed how helping others goes a long way. After the credits ran and everyone gave thunderous applause, the RCC meeting broke for a short lunch break. We were then reminded that the Leo Quiz would begin after lunch.
The tables and chairs were arranged after lunch with everyone’s cooperation. The Leo quiz questions involves not only Leo knowledge but also general knowledge. Each team sends 3 of their 4 members participating to complete a series of questions in paper. The top 4 teams were then chosen to compete again in the second round. The teams in second round were Leo Club of SMK Subang Jaya, SMK Assunta, ACGBU and PJI+DJ. The second and final rounds were open question where whoever answers first gets the point. Leo club of ACGBU and Subang Jaya went to the finals and Leo club of ACGBU became the champion of the quiz. The end of the quiz was the end of the event.

Orphanage Visit this Sunday

Joint Christmas Charity Bazaar Article

The Christmas Charity Bazaar is an annual event held by the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity. For this year, the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity joined forces with several other Alpha Leo Clubs such as the Leo Club of SMK Assunta, Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya, Leo Club of SMK Taman Sea and not forgetting the Leo Club of SMK Taman Petaling. The event this year was started on the 17th of December and carried on until the 19th of December which was a Sunday. The main objective of carrying out this project is to raise funds and as well as to gather up presents for over two hundred less fortunate children and old folks.

On the first day of the bazaar, several Leos from the various participating clubs gathered in front of MPH bookstore which was the site we were given by the management of Subang Parade. The Leos got to the site at 9.30 in the morning and got right to work by setting up the stall. We were only given 3 tables by the management and therefore had to bring in an extra table which was to be used as the gift wrapping station. Later on, the Christmas tree had to be set up and so the Leos got right to it. As for the decorations on the tree, Leo Casheen from Leo Club of Taman Petaling had designed cut outs which had the names of the many children that were from the orphanages. A couple of Leos helped to hang the cut outs onto the tree while the others got the items out of their respective packaging and laid them out onto the tables in an orderly manner. After the stall was set up, a small amount of Leos decided that it would be a good idea to do some promoting as there were not many people stopping by at the stall. After the Leos started promoting to the patrons of Subang Parade, the number of people who stopped by at our stall increased. Some of the Leos were assigned to explain to the customers about the purpose of our project. At first, there were not many people who wanted to stop by at our stall but after much persuasion by the Leos , they decided that it was a good cause and started to buy things from the stall. At around 10 in the night, the Leos started to pack up and do a stock check. Before leaving the site, the Leos also made sure the site was tidy.

For the second day of the project, the Leos decided to switch things up a little by placing the Christmas tree at a place where it would be seen by more patrons of the mall. By doing this the people who passed by the stall became inquisitive and began asking more about what our target for the project was. This was a good way to attract more people towards the stall. Next up, at around 2 in the afternoon, the opening ceremony for the project was held in front of the stall. Lion Ivan was kind enough to grace our ceremony. There were short speeches and the ribbon was cut to officiate the project. Sales on the second day of the event was much better than the first day as the Leos had got the hang of how things worked.

The 19th of December was the last day of the project and by then most of the names that we had initially placed on the tree had been taken off already as they had people purchase presents for them. Most of the names left on the tree were the names of the older folks who mainly were mentally ill. Even though it was more difficult to get people to buy presents for the older folks, in time we managed to do it and the tree had no more names on it which would mean that we now had a total of more than 200 presents. The number of presents collected was overwhelming as we did not expect to receive such a good response from the crowd at the initial stages.
At around 6 in the evening, the closing ceremony was held. The caretakers and several children from their homes came by to Subang Parade for the ceremony. Everyone was seated as soon as all the homes arrived. The preparations for the ceremony were made several minutes before the event started, things like checking to see if the mikes were working were done as preparations. Leo Eric Teh from the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity was made to be the emcee for the day. The speeches delivered were by the organising chairperson of the project, Leo Jean Ng and as well as the president of the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity which was Leo Fion Tey. Both of them remembered to thank the Leos and all the caretakers for being a part of this project. After the speeches were made, the gifts were handed out the children who had attended the ceremony. For the kids who did not attend the event, their presents were handed over to the caretakers of the home.

After presenting the gifts, the Leos decided to have a photo taking session with the kids. The Leos got the kids to get up on stage for the photos.

The group picture was taken and then the Leos were asked to head on over to Mc Donald’s with the children for a meal. The situation over at Mc Donald’s was pretty chaotic as the place was packed with patrons of the mall. Luckily, we managed to secure enough tables for the children and the caretakers. The Leos helped get the food and drinks to the children as fast as possible. At around 7 in the evening the children were done with their meals and it was time for them to leave. They wished several Leos a Merry Christmas and headed home. As usual, the Leos headed back to the stall and did the routine stock checking and also counted the earnings for the day. After everything was packed back into the boxes, the Leos took down the Christmas tree and the banner which was placed in front of the stall. The site of the stall was cleaned up and at around 11 in the night, the Leos left the site. All together this project has managed to rake in a total net profit of RM 4000 plus. Though there were some mistakes made during the project, this project seems to have been very beneficial and certainly a good one.

Leo Day with HIV Orphans Article

On the 4th December 2010, the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity organized an outing with the children of Wake HIV home, Setapak to Wangsa Walk for a movie entitled Tangled that was scheduled at 2 p.m.

Twelve Leos namely Leo Beatrice,Weng Siong,Wai Yew,Justin,Zi Lynn,Eric,Boon Kang,Pui Cheng,Jack ,Wei Jheng,Fion and myself made our way to Wangsa Walk right after the general meeting had adjourned at about 11.45 a.m. in 4 vehicles chauffeured by Leo Justin Yap, Leo Cheng Weng Siong, Leo Wong Wei Jheng and Leo Leong Wai yew. Without much traffic obstruction, the Leos arrived safely at Wangsa Walk at 12.15 p.m., where the Leos first had a quick lunch at Popeye’s before they met up with the kids and the helpers at the TGV cinema.

At 1p.m, the Leos were greeted with warm smiles from 12 children (aged 7 to16) and 2 helpers when they arrived at the cinema. The atmosphere was filled with much excitement and joy; the children faces were all literally glowing with anticipation. Before they made their way into the cinema, Leo Beatrice Grace distributed button badges to each and every child for easy recognition by the Leos. After seats were delegated, everyone made their way to the snacks and beverage counter for some popcorn and drinks. The mere sight of popcorn increased their excitement. Following that, everyone made their way into the cinema to enjoy the movie.

After the movie, a group picture was taken together with the kids and helpers. The Leos then accompanied the children back to their home where they interacted and played with the kids. Before they left, Leo Beatrice Grace handed the children a photo album containing photographs taken during last year’s Mooncake Festival and a big card that consist of wishes from Leo members to the children. At about 5.30 p.m., the Leos bid goodbye to the kids and helpers and headed back home.

2nd RCC Meeting Article

2nd RCC Meeting

On 14th November 2010, the 2nd RCC meeting was held at MD 308B Lions Headquarter at Bandar Sri Damansara, organized by Leo Chin Kar Yern from the Leo Club of SMK USJ 8. Leo Fion Tey, Leo Leong Wai Yew and Leo Justin Yap attended. Before the actual meeting began, all Leo Club and Lions present painted tri-colored handprints to support the Hand-in-Hand Project by Ipoh Unity.

The 2nd RCC meeting officially began at 10am and Leo Kah Mun of USJ8 was the designated secretary. The Lions who attended were RCC Lion Nicholas Seow, RCC Lion Nelson Wong,
Lion Datuk Neo, Lion Ivan Ho & Lion Christopher Voon. RCC Lion Nicholas first asked if there were any last minute participants for the upcoming Leo District Camp.

Then came the roll call consisting of Leo Clubs from SMK Seafield, SMK Taman SEA, SMK Subang Jaya, SMK Assunta, SMK Batu Lapan, SMK Taman Petaling (P),SMK La Salle PJ, SMK USJ4, Taylors College (O), SMK Subang Utama, SMK Damansara Jaya, SMK La Salle Klang, ACG Benevolent Unity (O), SMK USJ8 and representatives of the Leo Cabinet.

Each Leo Club then presented their reports following the order of the roll call. Personally, I felt that Batu Lapan had most entertaining presentation. After all the clubs had presented, RCC Lion Nicholas asked some clubs to consider homes that actually NEED charity. Then, the Leos had a final chance to promote their individual club projects before we all sat down to a simple lunch of Nasi Lemak and curry puffs.

After lunch, DC Lion Alan Thoo arrives and gives a short briefing on awards (Top, Excellent, Outstanding, Merit) before answering questions. Next on the agenda was a Leadership Seminar presented by Mr Saravanan, who touched on issues relating to People, Communication, Goals & Creativity.

The last agenda was the briefing on the HOPE 2010 project. The position of Organizing Chairperson was Foo Kok Way, the President of the Leo Club of Batu Lapan. He will announce when he will conduct the first project meeting. This concluded the 2nd RCC meeting which ended around 5pm.

Health Screening and Awareness Campaign Article

The Health Screening and Awareness Campaign was held to enhance the awareness on the importance of health to the public, in conjunction with the International Peace Poster project organized by the Lion’s Club of Petaling Jaya on the 17th of October 2010. The venue was located in the Subang Avenue shopping mall which was recently completed construction in the past few months. There were about 17 PJI-ans namely Leo Fion, Leo Wai Yew, Leo Rui Wei, Leo Justin Yap, Leo Wen Yuin, Leo Jeyamalar, Leo Samantha, Leo Jun Hsien, Leo Kian Min, Leo Wei Jheng, Leo Jack, Leo Beatrice, Leo Deborah, Leo Chien Lung, Leo Joanna, Leo Weng Siong and Leo Pei Wen came early in the morning and made tedious preparations at 8.30am before the official event starts at 10am. There were 4 booths set up for the health screening event.

Some PJI-ians were stationed to assist at each booth while others were busy giving out flyers in Subang Parade and Subang Avenue. Each booth represented a different health organization who kindly volunteered themselves to contribute in the event. Those 4 organisations are namely the National Blood Bank, Malaysian Liver Foundation, Optimum Chiropractic Health Centre and Tropicana Medical Centre. The National Blood Bank booth offered a free opportunity to donate blood to the needy. The Malaysian Liver Foundation offers Hepatitis B screening with a minimal charge of RM 15 per customer. The Optimum Chiropractic Health Centre booth offered advice on scoliosis, hunched back and other spine-related matters. Last but not least, Tropical Medical Centre offered free check-ups for blood pressure and glucose levels. Even before the event started, people had already queuing up.

When the event is going on some of the PJIs took the opportunity to donate blood and do health screenings to find out in the condition of their health. The event ended at 3.30pm together with the International Peace Poster project. We also received feedback from the 4 organizations that participated in the project. The amount of people visiting our booths reached a total of 190 people and the event turned out to be a success.

SPCA visitation article

On 23rd of October, 8 PJI members (Leo Chew Chien Lung, Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Khor Rui Wei, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Vivian Chew, Leo Jeyamalar, Leo Fion Tey and Leo Jonathan Wong) attended the SPCA project organized by Leo Jeyamalar.

We took the PUTRA LRT to Masjid Jamek then transferred to the STAR LRT to get to Ampang. From there, we took a cab to SPCA. Upon arriving there, we kept our stuff inside the office then we started to help out. We were divided into 2 groups, the males and the females. The males helped to carry the donated goods. We moved the goods to a big cage next to the dogs. Every time we walked pass the dogs , they started barking at us. The females followed another worker to help clean up cat dunks.

We were asked to remove the newspaper lining in the dog’s cage so that they can clean it up. Once we opened the cage, the dogs inside was so eager to get out. We tried to keep them inside until we were told that we can let the dogs out until we were done. Then it was lunch time for the dogs. We put the food into bowls for all the dogs. We started off by feeding the adult dogs then slowly moving on to the puppies.

After we were done feeding all the dogs, we started to play with them. When we pet one of the dogs, a few others came along. They seemed comfortable and happy. After that, some of the dogs started to stick to us, while some dogs always barked at us. One of the workers there told us that, normally those dogs don’t always act like that but because of how their previous owners treated them, they seem to be fiercer. It is sad to see those dogs which are like that not being comfortable around people.

Around 12pm, we packed our things and were ready to head back to PJ. Before we left, we took a group photo together with the people there.

Hand in Hand Project

Bonjour Pjians,

Leo Club Of Ipoh Unity will be organizing a hand print project with the theme “Hand in Hand”. It is a project where we will collect hand prints of at least one representative from each club in District 308 B2 in conjunction to the Leo Day which is held on 5th December every year. The objective of this project is to promote friendship among Leos in our district.

All you have to do is by putting down your hand prints and write a short and simple message on a piece of cloth. The cloth and other materials will be provided to each region. You may also use your own materials. Once done submit to Leo Cheng Weng Siong not later than 20th November 2010.

International Peace Poster Contest 2010 Article

On the morning of October 17th 2010, 18 members of PJI arrived at Subang Avenue to assist during the annual Peace Poster event jointly organized by Sin Chew Jit Poh and the Lions Club of Petaling Jaya. Leo Fion Tey, Leo Justin Yap, Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Tay Wen Yuin, Leo Jeyamalar, Leo Serena, Leo Zi-Lynn, Leo Deborah, Leo Lee Pei Wen, Leo Lee Jun Hsien, Leo Khor Rui Wei, Leo Beatrice Chan, Leo Wong Wei Jheng, Leo Joanna Yap, Leo Samantha Yap, Leo Chew Chien Lung and Leo Jack Ng all came together to help out this event. This year saw more than 200 kids taking part in the competition with the theme “Vision of Peace”.

The competition was split into two categories. In Category A, participants had to create an original artwork on a blank sheet of paper using any colouring material (crayon, marker, etc.). In Category B, participants had to use ONLY crayons to color in a prepared artwork. President Lion Kesavan from Lions Club of Petaling Jaya gave the opening speech and followed through by presenting souvenirs to the representatives of Sin Chew Jit Poh and Subang Avenue Management. He also presented souvenirs to the representatives of the 4 health organizations participating in the Health Awareness and Screening Campaign that was held in conjunction with the Peace Poster competition.

From 9am onwards, parents and their children began filling the space allocated for the competition. At 10.50am, the competition officially began. Parents strolled around Subang Avenue while their children worked on their artwork. Some parents even participated in the Health Awareness and Screening Campaign organized by Leo Lee Pei Wen. The competition lasted for 2 and a half hours, ending at 1.20pm sharp. After all the participants’ artwork was collected, the judges adjourned to the Subang Avenue Management office to make their decision. Once the chosen winners for each category were selected, it was time to hand out the prizes.

Category A and Category B both had 5 runner ups who each received a certificate and a branded watch. The top 3 winners for Category B also received certificates and branded watches but the top 3 winners for Category A received cash prizes in addition to their certificates and branded watches. After many photo sessions, it was time to pack up and head for home.

Walk For Sight Article

On the 10th of October 2010, 14 PJIans namely Leo Wei Jheng, Weng Siong, Beatrice, Chien Lung, Wen Yuin, Wen Jie, Rui Wei, Kian Min, Pei Wen, Fion, Deborah, Joanna, Jack and Wai Yew had attended the Walk For Sight event that was organised by the Lion Clubs from District 308B1 & 308 B2. The event was spearheaded by Dato Neoh of the Lions Club of Subang Jaya.

Once the clock hit 7am, everyone got off their lazy bums and started dancing together with the aerobic dance lead by a bunch of Leos and Superstar Allan Yun. With the leading team of dancers on stage, everyone followed the move that they showed to us. We did short warm-up exercises and dance routines on the ‘Roti Canai’ song by the Lions, ‘Club Can’t Handle Me’ by the Leos and many more to heat up the atmosphere. All the moves were hilarious and everyone was keen to participate.

The official event started at 7.30am with a welcoming speech by the organisers. This was followed by the cheque presentation from our very own club President, Leo Fion Tey. On behalf of the Joint Musical Charity Concert committee, Leo Fion presented the cheque to Dato Neoh, witnessed by District Governor, Lion Hudson Huh and DG Dato Yeow.

The official walk begins with the bang of party poppers in place of the traditional gunshot. The walk started at 9am and stretched approximately 3.8km around the area of New Town Petaling Jaya. Blind folds were given to each pair. One will be leading while the other will be blindfolded. Both individuals get to experience a different point of view throughout the whole event. As a result, everyone witnessed the joyful moments of being the leader and the blind folded one.

Looking from the other perspective of the event, we also had free coffee from the booth and free sponsored souvenirs such as badges, chewing gums, green tea drink packets and oyster sauce. After 1 hour into the walk, we had lucky draws that allow visitors to walk away with tantalizing gifts and surprises. In fact, several PJI members walked away with a water dispenser, a fruit blender and even a microwaved oven. The event ended at 10,30am with a closing ceremony. Before everyone heading back home, we took a group picture with our sister clubs, the Leo Club of Assunta & the Leo Club of Damansara Jaya.

Leo Orientation Camp

Finally, the long awaited Leo Orientation Camp is here!!! The camp participants arrive at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Megah at approximately 9.00am. When all the participants have arrived, without any delay, the opening ceremony began. After speeches, speeches and speeches, the Leos were told about the rules and regulations by Leo Tan Ming Kim. Then they were ‘let go’ to have their first meal of the camp.

“Dog bone” and “Do you like your neighbour”. Those games were inevitably interesting and it brought all of the Leos closer to each other, but it made them so tired and thirsty so we had them some tea before moving on with the activities planned. All charged up, Lion Ivan gave his inspiration talk to motivate the Leos in their lives. Then, they were given some time to rest, which includes their time to bath and time to practice for their sketch for fellowship night. Dinner time!!!! Happiest time for the participants I guess. Then, comes a game which we all prepared the most, the time for the Leos to become pirates, for them to hunt for the most valuable treasure of all. Well, I’m sure a lot of people want to know what treasure am I talking about but I just decided to keep it as a secret. =D moving on, the games mainly test a lot on the Leo’s mental power and their will to work together.

Day two; we had breakfast then the committees taught the Leos how to play ultimate Frisbee. This game consists of a lot of teamwork and a lot of team communications. They were first separated into four teams and they were guided on the basic rules and regulations of the Frisbee game. Then they were given a short period of time to practice on how to throw a Frisbee properly. Let the game begin. The Leos enjoyed the game and they were interested in playing more of it but unfortunately, as we were behind time, we need to end the game and let them have their lunch. After lunch, the Leos meet at the meeting hall and all the clubs presented on their future projects. Tea was served after that for those who were hungry and time was given to them to practice on their performance which they are going to present on that night itself. Break time!!! They showered and got ready for dinner. Dinner was a feast!!! They seemed to have a lot more appetite compared to the first night. They practically finished all the food!

After dinner it’s time for the long-awaited fellowship night. Both the Taman Petaling and Sea Park-ians performed an impressive song with their impressive voice. DJ-rians brought out something new when they start knocking the table with cups and they start clapping, somehow a really nice rhythm and tempo was brought out. Not forgetting the Assuntarians, they presented a very energetic dance to the South Africa FIFA World Cup 2010 theme song “Waka Waka” by Shakira. The PJIs on the other hand, did a activity where all the Leos can bond with each other more and get to know more about each other. Leo Chong Sheng took lead of the Indian dance which I believe entertained almost everyone. Open dance floor! Leos started dancing and slowly their energy got drained by the activities we had for the whole day. So they went and got themselves cleaned up and went to bed. Well, although some of them did not sleep the whole night.

Day three; after washing up, the Leos had their breakfast and prepared them-self for Lion Clayton’s activity. This activity is called “Straw Towers”. They were separated into groups and they were each given different posts. Different posts will be responsible for different tasks and they are supposed to build a tower just by using straws and plasticize. They have to build the tower to a height of 3 feet in 30 minutes. With such a short time frame, many groups that did not plan themselves properly find it hard for them to reach the target. It is basically an activity that brings them to how they organize projects throughout the year and how they actually manage their team. It is a really meaningful project and everyone learnt a lot out of it.
After the activity, the Leos went back to their rooms to clean up and pack their belongings. A photography session is held at the hall. Everyone took photos to remember this moment when so many Leos come along together in this camp. After taking tonnes of photos, they were served their last meal at the camp. After lunch, the PJIs asked for feedbacks at the meeting hall and quite a number of the Leos were satisfied with the whole camp. Lion Ivan gave his last words before the camp comes to an end.

“Ting”, the bell sounded and the camp came to its end. One by one the participants went back home and we sure do miss them and definitely hope to see them in the near future.
p.s. guys, remember to come for the Leadership Camp as there is more fun for you to discover. =D *cheers*
Some of them were outstanding leaders and a number of them were superb supporters. All I can say is that I believe they learn something that they will not encounter in the classrooms, and of course, the winners deserve to get what they got. =) After the winners got their price, the Leos had a bit of supper then went to bed, as they need more energy for what’s coming up on the next day.

Moon Cake Festival Old Folk Home Visit

On the 4th September 2010, 11 members of PJI paid a fruitful visit to the old folk’s home at Bukit Nanas. We left for Bukit Nanas at around 3.30 pm, slightly behind schedule after having our lunch at Wong Kwok Char Chan Teng. The traffic in Kuala Lumpur was terrible and congested with rows of cars all aligned, not moving. The journey was long and tiresome but all that weariness faded when we reached the old folks’ home at around 4 plus in the afternoon.

We were brought to a room where all the old folks, mostly old women were sitting down quietly. We brought the donations for the old folks and even brought lanterns as decorations to hang them on the walls of the room. Besides that, we even bought electronic lanterns where the old folks were very enthusiastic and excited about it. While setting up the music and the decorations, a few of our PJI members had some bonding sessions with the old folks, including me. I was very touched and at the same time shocked to see most of them had trouble in communicating. Some of them couldn’t hear or speak or even see and yet they were so excited to communicate with us. One of them, taught me how to do hand signals which was quite interesting to learn.

After the bonding sessions, we had a line up of performances for them. We first performed a sing along with the old folks where we sang mostly oldies like for example, L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley’s songs and even YMCA where we did the infamous YMCA hand actions which the old folks followed them eagerly. Of course, singing wasn’t just the only entertainment we had. We performed a dance which was lead and choreographed by our very own Leo member, Chong Seng. It was an impromptu performance but the old folks enjoyed it very much and some tried dancing along as well.

The time indicated 5.30 pm and it was time for the old folks to take their shower and attend another event at 6.00 pm. Before they left, we had our usual Leo group picture and a very heartwarming chorus from the old folks who expressed their gratitude by singing two songs for us which were Thank You and Friends Are Like Flowers. We had our last photo shoot with one of the helpers of the home and left Bukit Nanas after that.

Selangor 10th Joint Installation 2010

On 15th August, we have two installations to attend. Right after the KL Joint Installation, we rushed to the Selangor 10th Joint Installation which was held at 3K Complex Hall in Subang Jaya. Many Leo Clubs from different regions came to witness this momentous occasion. It meant a lot to the new Leos and also the incoming BODs of every club. Seven members from Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity attended the event; namely Leo Fion Tey, Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Justin Yap, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Chew Chien Lung, Leo Jack Ng and Leo Wong Wei Jheng.

Upon arrival, we headed to the registration counter and entered to take a seat while waiting for the function to start. As the clock strikes one, the event was called to order. This was followed by the arrival of the Guest of Honor, Lion Dignitaries and the roll call of Leo Clubs. Then, the event moved on to the Leo Pledge and speeches.

Next, there were some performances lined up to lighten the mood. After that, we moved on to the induction ceremony of the new Leo members. Then it was the time to install the new BODs. The new leaders stood up and accepted their gavels as marks of leadership. Once this was completed, light refreshment was provided for the audience to fill up their empty stomachs before the next item on the agenda.

The next performer was a ballerina, followed by two girls from Leo Club of SMK Taman Sea who mesmerized the audience with their beautiful rendition of “Nobody”, before ending with a medley of “OMG” & “California Girl” to heat up the atmosphere. Last but not least, souvenirs were presented to each of the guest club Presidents. Finally it was time for everyone to shake their booty. The event ended around 6pm.

A fine morning on the 15th of August 2010, 5 members from the Leo Club of PJI namely Leo Leong Wai Yew, Leo Tai Kian Min, Leo Justin Yap, Leo Tey Boon Kang and Leo Fion Tey departed to Confucian High School Hall, Lorong Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur by means of LRT and walking to attend the 10th KL Leo Clubs Joint Installation. Upon arrival, we registered and entered to take a seat while waiting for the function to begin.

The event began with the arrival of the Guest of Honor followed by the national anthem and then the recital of Leo pledge. Following up to that was the opening performance of Indian drums by the Leo Club of Sultan Abdul Samad. After the highly spirited opening performance it was time for speeches first by the organizing chairperson and then by the Guest of Honor who at the end of his speech officiated the event.

After the speeches it was time for an eye opening dance performance, KDU Jai Ho. With our eyes still wide open they moved on to the induction ceremony for the new Leo members. With the new members inducted the outgoing president representative gave his speech to motivate the new bodies of the club as they’ll be leaving their clubs. Then it was the time for the Installation of the new BOD of the clubs. The new leaders stood up and accepted their respective responsibilities. The presidents then received their gavels as a mark of a new leadership. With that over, the representative of the new presidents gave his speech and adjourned the meeting.

After the meeting was adjourned, they had a few performances prepared for the audience. First there was a beatbox performance raising the beat of the crowd and lastly two girls from the Leo Club of SMKTS mesmerized the audience with their beautiful voices by singing their versions of a few songs. After that we had some refreshments and departed to our next destination.

Joint Induction and Installation

District 308B2 Region 1 Omega and Alpha Leo clubs are having a Joint Installation cum Conferment Honorary Member of New Century Lions Club of Penang Island. There will be 12 Leo Clubs in Region 1 participating on the above mentioned function. Details are as below:

Mooncake Festival Visitation announcement!

Hello beautiful people ;)

As a reminder, after the GM this Saturday, there will be a mooncake festival visitation to an old folks home in Bukit Nanas!

Mooncake visitation to old folks home on 4th Sept 2:30pm - 4:30pm after gm, still in need of sponsorship and confirmation from everybody for items to be contributed. Minimum amount of items has been set, whatever anybody wants to contribute inform me or Debbie latest by Thursday and please pay up by Saturday (during meeting). The balance of items that have no contribution from the members I will balance it off by contribution.

Items to be contributed are:

10 packets each of oats, condense milk, sardine, meat and baked beans (canned food)

5 bags rice

5 bottles of oil

6 boxes mooncake

low sugar soya bean drink

We'll be hanging lanterns for them and the helpers will light the lanterns for the old folks and we'll be performing sing along with the old folks. List of songs are tie a yellow riboon, L.O.V.E, dont worry be happy, elvis presley songs. Learn them up when you can :) We need a person who can play the guitar.
